If you are considering abortion and researching your options in the San Francisco area, this page can answer many of your questions. Additionally, in our medical clinic you can receive an official pregnancy verification and dating of your pregnancy—two essential things. These are essential because your pregnancy options are determined by how far along in the pregnancy you are.
Regardless of whether you are considering abortion, adoption, or parenting, you will need a pregnancy verification and dating of your pregnancy to receive any services from an organization.
What exactly is a pregnancy verification and why do I need it?
When a licensed medical facility, like Support Circle, performs a pregnancy test, it issues you a pregnancy verification if the test is positive or negative, and by which method this was verified. This pregnancy verification is the official document that serves as the proof of pregnancy for insurance companies, community agencies that provide services like the W.I.C. program, employers, and will be needed if you obtain an abortion. An abortion cannot be obtained without having a pregnancy verification.
Don’t wait two weeks to get your pregnancy verification! Typically, at Support Circle you can schedule an appointment within three business days or less.
Why do I need dating of my pregnancy?
Abortion procedures differ depending on how far along the pregnancy is. You won’t be able to make any decisions about an abortion procedure or any pregnancy options until you know how far along the pregnancy is.
Take the time to be informed and to receive an official dating of your pregnancy. Come in for a free pregnancy test or a free ultrasound and know for sure whether you are pregnant and how far along you are.
Every woman should be entitled to a safe place as they make a decision about their pregnancy that does not profit from any medical procedures resulting from that decision.
All of our support services to our clients are 100% confidential and free of charge.
What is the Abortion Pill?
The Abortion Pill is available by prescription only. It is actually not just one pill – it is a combination of two pills: Mifepristone (Mifeprex, RU486) and Misoprostol. Mifepristone is taken in a medical office or clinic. This pill causes the lining of your uterus to shed (like during a menstrual cycle). The second pill, Misoprostol, is taken at home approximately two days later. Misoprostol induces uterine contractions to clear the contents of your uterus. It is common to experience pelvic cramping, vaginal bleeding and spotting in addition to other side-effects (nausea, headache, vomiting, etc.) for an average of 9-16 days. A follow-up visit 7-14 days after taking the abortion pill regimen is important to ensure the abortion completed successfully.
